Meet the Veterinarians

Dr. Allison Bartel

Dr. Allison Bartel was raised on a mixed farm south of Jansen, SK. Her love of animals, especially the larger ones, lead her to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. She graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. Upon graduating, Allison and her husband Shawn, moved to southern Saskatchewan, where she practiced for 2 years. In January 2008, when the opportunity presented to purchase the clinic at home she didn't hesitate. Allison and her husband Shawn have three children: Cade, Kaylin and Mesa. They have some commercial cows and horses on the farm as well. Between the kids, their activities and the clinic, there isn't a lot of spare time but she does enjoy traveling, family and camping.

Dr. Amy McLaren

Dr. Amy McLaren grew up on a mixed farm northwest of Nokomis, SK. Her rural upbringing inspired her love of animals, both large and small, and she decided to pursue a career in animal agriculture. She completed a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Saskatchewan in 2004 and graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) in Saskatoon in 2009. She has worked at Watrous Animal Hospital ever since. Amy enjoys working with beef cattle, dogs, and cats. She loves living in a rural community and working close to home. Amy and her husband Chris have two children: Tyson and Kylie. In her spare time, Amy enjoys spending time with her family and friends, volunteering, gardening, baking, and playing the piano.

Dr. Renae Zook

Dr. Renae Zook grew up in Trochu: a small agricultural community in rural Alberta. She completed both her Bachelor of Science and DVM at the University of Saskatchewan. Renae is a 2016 graduate of the Western College of Veterinary Medicine who has joined the staff at Watrous Animal Hospital. During her time at Vet School Renae has worked in a number of mixed animal practices (in Rocky Mountain House and Trochu, Alberta) as well as one summer for Teradan Equine at Spruce Meadows, Alberta. She enjoys working with dogs and horses and hopes to expand the equine portion of WAH. In her spare time she enjoys riding and training her horse Spryte, hiking, water sports, camping and downhill skiing.
